Location: The Hagman Ranch is located approximately 18 miles east of Oelrichs SD along US Hwy 18. The Ranch HQ is on a county road one and one-half miles off the Hwy.
History: The Ranch has been in the Hagman family for nearly a century operating as a working ranch. The ranchs current operators are Bill and Delores Hagman. Bill assumed operation at age 21, sixty-one years ago.
Operation: The ranch consists of 2,066+/- acres deeded property along with a bonded Pine Ridge Tribal Lease of 915 acres and a Pine Ridge Tribal grazing unit of 5,300 acres. The deeded property includes 600+/- acres hay-land along Blacktail Creek. Irrigation dykes and a reservoir have been developed, however are not currently functional and have not been used in recent years. Some of the meadows are sub-irrigated and the ranch has historically had ample hay production.
The ranch is currently stocked with 240+/- cow/calf pairs and 55 yearling heifers plus horses and bulls. The cow herd is an exceptional set of one-iron angus cows and could possibly be negotiated for in a sale. The calves are traditionally sold in the fall with the exception of the replacement heifers. The cows are bred to start calving April 1st and are normally calved on the leased lands.
Water: The Headquarters and surrounding area is watered by two shallow wells with submersible pumps. The remaining deeded property is watered by a well and pipeline and a windmill. The home is watered by the Mni-waconi rural water system for domestic use.
Improvements: The improvements consist of, shop, barns, storage sheds and home. The improvements are modest but adequate and highly functional.
Leases: The 5,300 acre Range Unit lease currently costs $25,600+/- annually and is stocked at a rate of 180 pair for 8 months. This lease will be open for bid for the 2013 grazing season. The 915+/- acre Realty Lease cost is $3,906+/- per year and is up for renewal in 2016. The realty lease requires a bond or letter of credit to secure payment for the term of the lease.
Taxes: The 2011 tax assessment was $4,045.08.
